Ginger not blocking GA cookie

  • Hi,

    in order to comply to the GDPR, I need the user consent before setting any cookie. In my case I only use Google Analytics so I thought that ginger cookie law was the perfect plugin. Unfortunately it’s not. Despite having the opt-in option activated the GA cookie is always fired (even when choosing disable cookie in the banner !)

    If somebody knows how to make this work I would be very interested ??

  • I’m very interested on it also… Theoretically, the plugin disables that cookie when it isn’t anonimized. But I’m using Awesome Cookie Manager (a Chrome extension) to check cookies and it seems that it’s always enabled…

    Patlal, I read other plugins have a place to put the GA ID, like Ginger, and you have to put it there and remove it from however you had put it on your site.

    But I’m not sure GA works if I do that…

    Sorry, it doesn’t work. In that way, it blocks GA, but GA doesn’t work even when user accepts cookies ??

    Hi Tesacu,

    I tried everything with Ginger, and also with some others like cookie notice, cookie consent etc, but none of those plugins are working as expected to comply with the GDPR.
    If you’re interested here are some working solutions :
    – cookieBot
    – Onetrust (free only for 1 site)
    and of course “tarteaucitron” (https://opt-out.ferank.eu/en/install/). It’s free and opensource and it’s works very well

    However, I’m very surprised by the fact that developers of Ginger doesn’t seem interested to comply with the GDPR.

    Not only Ginger developers, it’s the same with most of the cookies plugins.

    _ga cookies are cookie of google analytocs anonimized. When ga is anonimized it becomes a technical cookie and does not need to be blocked.

    I’m looking for this too, a plugin to block GA cookies unless the user accepts the cookies, did you finally find a solution for this?

    _ga is an anonimized cookie, what about _gat and _gid?
