Gitlab issue since Nov 28 2018

The release 11.5.1 of Gitlab (https://about.gitlab.com/2018/11/28/security-release-gitlab-11-dot-5-dot-1-released/) breaks the downloads from remote sources when using Gitlab.
Changing the code base to call the recommended method does not work because the API does not work as described in its documentation (formatparameter not accepted).
