Give different posts different styles

Hi there, I am reading about this now, but still cannot find out how this can help me with giving different posts different styles.

I have put this in my functions.php and now I can set a post type when I make a post. But when I select for example GALLERY nothing changes when I read the outputted html in the page source.

[…]and post_class() will also create the “format-asides” class, for pure-css styling.

one more question, is it also possible to change the html stucture for a specific post format ?
