• The copy says: “Lets you add posts to your front page on an opt-in basis.” I wish it would have. When I installed the plug-in it applied the “news” category to every post. My front page load slowed to a crawl. Applying categories to every post should be an option. I ended up having to delete the data from from phpmyadmin to choose just the posts wanted.

Many users activated it and then came back asking why all of their posts disappeared from their front page, hence the adding of every post to a news category. Think of it as the least bad of bad choices. (Patch welcome if you think it should be an option.)

As for bring the front page to a crawl, that has to do with joining the table with two other tables. Admittedly, the WP taxonomy schema is not ideal for this (it used to have one table less when this plugin got released), and MySQL is pathetic at running the resulting query. Yes, changing the WP schema and adding a field to the posts page would be a better option. (Patch welcome for that too, but do consider providing upgrading sites that have the plugin active already if you submit one…)
