Give members access to selected pages

  • Hello!

    I’m currently making a website for a countrywide club, with “chapters” around the country.

    This is a common website for the whole club. When a member register on the website, he or she will gain access to their chapter on the website (Pages unavailable for guests)

    So it will be sort of a sub-website on the website, where each club have access to their own blog, photo gallery, calendar for upcoming events, etc etc. I tested the BuddyPress plugin, but it’s not exactly what I’m looking for:

    I’m looking for a plugin (Or maybe it’s already implemented in WordPress?) that let me give the administrators of each chapter access to their sub-website on the clubs common website. Administrators are able to add blog posts on their website, add pictures to the gallery and add events.

    I don’t want them to have access to change the rest of the common website, i.e other chapters sub-websites.
    I don’t want them to have access to remove or add posts/pictures on other chapters sub-websites, or even the public pages on the common website.

    Is this possible to do? That I give them access to change only selected pages/galleries/events?

    You need a membership plugin :

    and maybe access to create more granular Roles and Permissions :

    Ok so I was a little quick to change the status to resolved.

    I’ve installed the Ultimate Member and User role editor plugins. I like to play around with plugins before reading the manual.

    I’ve created a page, let’s call it “San Francisco”.
    I’ve also created the sub pages: “San Francisco – Blog” and “San Francisco Gallery”.

    I’ve created a user role that have access to these pages. Now I want to add an administrator role called “San Francisco Administrator”. I think I need to give them access to wp-admin to change stuff. They can edit other members account, delete other member accounts, etc.

    Only thing now I can’t figure out is how I can give them access to edit the “San Francisco” page and sub pages ONLY. There’s a huge list of WP capabilities, but I can’t figure out how I give them access to edit these pages only.

    Precisely. Which is why I had mentioned you may need to grant Roles in a more granular way, and for that you may have to use the Role plugin.

    Are you sure you went through all the options in Ultimate Member already?
    Unless you are already comfortable with this type of method or approach, I would recommend not installing the Roles based plugin right now.
    Take your site as far as you can with the Ultimate Member plugin first – then add in the other one if required.
    I think UM should be able to cover your needs.
    Also, make you you have an understanding of the core Roles and Permissions first :

    If you put the time in now to learn the Roles properly, it will save you much more time down the road during configuration, and troublehsooting.

    I will definitely take a look at the manual of Ultimate Member, I just like playing around a bit first.

    I gave the user role “San Francisco Administrator” access to wp-admin, and access to edit posts, edit pages and publish pages.

    I have NOT given the user role access to edit others posts and edit others pages.

    Problem now is that they have to create their own pages first. An administrator of “San Francisco” have to make the pages to be able to edit them later on.
    I’ve tried to add a page and just change the author of the page to the administrator of that chapter, but that didn’t work.

    I will take a better look, as there is probably something I overlook here!
