    Hi everyone,

I face a compatibility issue between my theme and a third party plugin.

The developer of the plugin asked me to send them a copy of my theme. After I’ve asked the developer of the theme the authorization to do so, I sent the developer of the plugin a copy of my theme.

They said they were not able to reproduce the issue on their end. They also said the issue looks like it’s isolated on my website only. Then they asked if I have a staging website I can give them access to: they want to do some tests and investigate the issue further.

Is it safe to give them access to my staging website? I’m not sure why but I quite don’t like this idea.

Thank you for your insight, I really appreciate your help.

Depending on you. Alternate plugins are an option if you want to stay out of this mess. The developers genuinely wish to assist the user in finding a solution. They ought to fix the problem if it is the premium plugin.

    hello @needhelpwiththat

If you are giving access to developer then it’s safe, make sure you are adding as another admin from Users >> Add New >> role >> admin and once the developer figures out the issue you can remove him.

    Hope it solves your query.

this will be violation of the forum guidelines.

We are usually replying with such lecture

While I know you have the best of intentions, it’s forum policy that you
not ask users for admin or server access. Users on the forums aren’t your customers, they’re your open source collaborators, and requesting that kind of access can put you and them at high risk.

If they are paying customers (such as people who bought a premium service/product from you) then by all means, direct them to your official customer support system. But in all other cases, you need to help them here on the forums.

Thankfully are other ways to get information you need:

    You get the idea.

We know volunteer support is not easy, and this guideline can feel needlessly restrictive. It’s actually there to protect you as much as end users. Should their site be hacked or have any issues after you accessed it, you could be held legally liable for damages. In addition, it’s difficult for end users to know the difference between helpful developers and people with malicious intentions. Because of that, we rely on plugin developers and long-standing volunteers (like you) to help us and uphold this particular guideline.

When you help users here and in public, you also help the next person with the same problem. They’ll be able to read the debugging and solution and educate themselves. That’s how we get the next generation of developers.

    Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your insight, I better understand the ins and outs of the situation now.

I will kindly decline their offer to help me by giving them credentials for my staging site as I found a workaround for the issue I’m facing.

Again thank you for your answers,
