    Hi guys,

Sorry for the unceremonious way that I left around 6 months ago, but quite frankly, I missed this plugin.

Nice to see that the drop-down ‘annoyer’ has been moved to the top of the page now too!

    Anyway, a question –

In my Seo Booster>> Backlinks section, it clearly says at the top of the page:

Who links to you – Visits from other websites that links to you.

…when obviously they do NOT link to my website.

    How are these ‘backlinks’ created?

    Hello @steveraven

These “backlinks” are created by the visits you get to your website.

If a visitor or a bot is coming from another website or search engine, they will bring a “referrer” string, indicating where they came from.

However, as with most anything else online – this information can be faked.

It is called referrer spam – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referrer_spam and is an old and very simple and ineffective way for script kiddies to get backlinks from sites that inadvertently link back to the website on public parts of their websites.

Any kind of traffic that comes in is logged, but since SEO Booster does not publish this information anywhere, it only shows up in the administration.

The list of backlinks is based on what traffic your website is getting or at least where the visitors pretend to be from, fake or not.

The premium version comes with a backlink checker that automatically verifies if the link is for real or just spam.

From version 3.5 onward you can add backlink filters, meaning if you get a lot of spam from Russian domains, you can enter “.ru” and all those backlinks will be removed.
