    Hi,

I have been using the SMTP plugin for a while now and it works very well. However, I recently began managing multiple adwords accounts for clients and google is ow requiring that I use 2 step verification on my email address in order to access the different accounts from within my primary adwords account. When I did this is caused the plugin to throw an error and I had no idea that email notifications were not going out for several days. It was easy enough to fix by just going through all of the set up steps again, but now I can’t access these adwords accounts without breaking the plugin on my site.

Any ideas on how to get the plugin to work when I have 2 step verification on in gmail? Or can you envision a better solution to my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help,

    John

  • Hi John,

When the Gmail 2 step verification is enabled or the Gmail password is changed, there could be an issue with the permission due to the Secret Key (and all tokens that were generated using that key) being invalidated.

To resolve this you’ll need to regenerate tokens by going to the console.developers.google.com > Credentials page. Click on the Edit screen for your credentials and Reset Secret after that. Here’s the screenshot of the button you need to click.

    I hope this helps!

Hi, I’m facing the same problem (emails not sending out and form throws error notification).
@microphobik mentions the need to redo the setup to solve the issue on the website. I try but it didn’t work…

I’m also still having an issue. I did as instructed and reset the secret and then repasted it in each of the three subdomains I have the SMTP plugin installed on and I can get things to work on two of the three installs I’m using the plugin on, but the third won’t work no matter what I try. I’ve reset it several times and even tried starting over from scratch. I’ve tried it with the 2 step on and off and nothing is working. Any ideas?

Just to follow up… I ticked the box in Misc to delete all data when deleting the plugin, then deleted the plugin and reinstalled it using the exact settings I had been using before and it worked. Any idea why that might have happened?

    Hi @microphobik,

Gald to know you sorted it out. I apologize but I’m not sure what happened. It might be some issue within the multisite or some weird kind of caching. Generally, though, this kind of issue is due to secret key being invalidated and should’ve been fixed resetting the secret key.

    Thanks! ??
