• Hello!

While setting up a new BuddyPress website few days ago; I discovered that no activation emails were being sent to the registrants. I confirmed it was not BuddyPress but even WordPress was not sending emails.

So, I tried to set up SMTP using the WP-SMTP plugin which did not work. It kept saying authentication failed (I was trying to use my Gmail dot com mail).

I ended up installing and setting up Gmail SMTP and it worked well.

The problem is – just after few minutes I set up Gmail SMTP successfully, Gmail sent me an email saying. “Your Google Account has been suspended”. Here is how that email looks like – https://i.imgur.com/cyldZdd.jpg

I replied to that email but have not heard back anything so far, my email account is still functioning and emails from my BP site are still being sent.

Using a gmail.com email was a test done on a test site. I wanted to configure my Google Apps account on my live site but now I am scared. Can you shed some light on what may have gone wrong here?

    Thank you

Hi, I’m not sure what went wrong. But your account shouldn’t get suspended because of this plugin. It uses the safest method to authenticate with your Gmail account (no username/password). Are you sure that email actually came from Gmail?

If email stop functioning you can probably use the link in the email to recover your account.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, that email seems to be from Gmail only. I already used that link in the email and submitted a form. I have not received a reply since.

Following line in the email is what scares me – “All information associated with your suspended account will eventually get deleted, unless successfully appealed.”
