Gmail emails not sent

I tried setting up this plugin with gmail and it worked well for test emails. Problems occured when we tried to send email via gmail a list of our 160+ users. Gmail rejected the message due to the site of the recipient list. Is there a way to get the plugin to break up a message with many recipients into several messages with a subset of our users?
