    I’m getting this when I test the connection. I have reset and checked email credentials and I can log in using these to the gmail account

    Postie connection: sockets
    Postie protocol: imap-ssl
    Postie server: imap.gmail.com
    Postie port: 993
    Unable to connect. The server said: IMAP - Could not connect to IMAP server imap.gmail.com on port 993. Array
    (
        [0] => A0002 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

  • I’m getting this problem, since the start of the month and I believe that the reason is a change at Google. To quote from this page:

    https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en#zippy=%2Cif-less-secure-app-access-is-off-for-your-account%2Cif-less-secure-app-access-is-on-for-your-account

    `To help keep your account secure, from May 30, 2022, ??Google no longer supports the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.

    Important: This deadline does not apply to Google Workspace or Google Cloud Identity customers. The enforcement date for these customers will be announced on the Workspace blog at a later date.

    For more information, continue to read.`

    The setting to allow Less Secure Apps is no longer available, so Postie will no longer work as far as I can see until it is changed to operate in a different more secure way, i.e. no longer just relying on username/password.

    So Postie is broken then? Thank you I’ll have to look for other solutions.

    Postie is not broken, rather Gmail has changed and Postie needs to be updated to support Gmail. There is a fix in the works.

    Others have reported that turning on 2-step and making an app specific password seemed to work.

    I was able to reactivate the fetching by doing this (suggested by @dubaidogfish):

    1) Under “Security”, activate the the “2-steps verification” on the Google account;
    2) Once it’s activated, set “App passwords”, “Select App” to “Mail”, “Select device” to “Other (custom name)”, give it a name (Postie Password) and copy the password generated at the end of the “App passwords” process;
    3) Use the generated password on Postie instead of the Google account password;

    Good luck!

    Yes I managed to get it working with that approach but it would be better without 2FA on

    Thank you all for useful and rapid suggestions, my client is now happy!!

    Good! Is working!

    Thank you!

    Yes, I can confirm that the suggested work-around is effective for me as well.

    Perhaps a sticky post at the top of the support page might be helpful while the proper fix is in the pipeline – if that is possible?

    Enabling 2FA on the @gmail.com account that I set up to use for Postie seems to have fixed things here, also.

    <fingers crossed>

    Hello,

    I have activated the 2FA and i’ve done the App passwords process but it doesn’t work… the connexion seems to be OK but no new mail appears.

    Connect to Mail Host
    Postie connection: sockets
    Postie protocol: imap-ssl
    Postie server: imap.gmail.com
    Postie port: 993
    Successful IMAP-SSL connection on port 993
    # of waiting messages: 2550

    @hyperfytz please start your own thread. Since it is successfully connecting this isn’t about gmail.
