I am trying to get the gmail smtp working, but it seems my enabled 2 factor authentication on my gmail account does not allow oauth permissions.

Is there any workaround? For my local Windows Outlook application and phone mail application I use an app password to circumvent the 2 factor authentication check, but I guess this app password solution is not usable on a website?

    Thank you,
    Tez

  • HI @tezalsec,

Thanks for reaching out. Yes, if you’re using Gmail’s SMTP option, you’ll need to use your App password if you have two-step verification enabled. Here’s the documentation for creating App passwords. The Gmail mailer which uses Google API does not requires an App password though. If you’re still facing issues, please share full error log after sending test email, here’s a screenshot for the option to get a full error log. This will give us an idea of what might be going on.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks Sanjeev, I got it working. The error log said to go to the https://console.developers.google.com/apis/etc.. address because it seemed the Gmail API wasn’t enabled yet (although I did create the key, secret and credentials).

    Thanks!
