On my local install, and on the sites I maintain at work (with another host) I can drag a widget over to the widget box I want and drop it there.

On my website host at GoDaddy I have chose “add” and another screen comes up, then I have chose which widget and pick a number from the dropdown.

I thought I had installed some plugin that did this, so I uninstalled them, when that didn’t work I tried reinstalling WordPress on my hosting.

I can post screen shots, if I’m not explaining this right.

It annoys me, because it makes widget management tedious.

Did I do something? or is there something different about the auto -install WordPress from Go Daddy? (If so will manual install fix it?)

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Thank-you esmi ??

*sigh* I had something called “accessibility mode” enabled.

It is under screen options at the top, if anyone else ever wanders in and ask why their widgets won’t behave correctly.
