GoDaddy issue with sub-directories & domain names

after a few hours of talking to godaddy, it appears that wordpress can’t be hosted from a sub-directory of my hosting account.

No. I use Godaddy in this way and it works just fine.

You have your hosting account, right? When you setup the extra domain names on that account, you can point it at a subdirectory. That subdirectory becomes the root of your site. So when you configure WordPress, remember that the root of your site is the subdirectory.

It’s quite possible to configure it in the way you’re talking about. It’s just confusing about where you ftp the files to.

I’ve taken some screen shots to further explain my problem. Shown in the image is my domain management screen in godaddy, my wordpress folder in my FTP client, what happens when you try to go to frame9.net (re-directs to tomjwallace.com) and the site it should go to (www.tomjwallace.com/wordpress).
and at the very end is the email godaddy sent to me earlier today.

This issue is resolved, i’m embarrassed to explain how i fixed it ??

frame9: Let me guess, you changed the URL’s on the Options->General page to the frame9.net URL’s? ??

That’s a sort of new thing in WordPress 2.3. It will enforce the correct URLs by redirecting to the ones they should be. This helps with search engine karma.

the problem with wordpress and godaddy is that WP needs to be run on a Linux server. If you set your website on a windows server, it will not work. You can change it under Hosting Accounts menu on Acct Manager.

I use 1and1.com and I’m running on a linux serve but having the same problem. They are telling me wordpress is redirecting my subdomain back to the root.

My wordpress and blog url are both at https://www.mobius.name/blog. I point a subdomain blog.mobius.name to the /blog/ directory but after the recent upgrade it resolves to the root. 1and1 says there is a scripting error from wordpress causing the redirect.

Is there a workaround for this? I tried changing the blog url to blog.mobius.name but then if someone loads the full path it adds an extra ‘blog’ directory at the end for a url like this, https://www.mobius.name/blog/blog/

I found an answer here. If WP is not in your root directory and you add additional domains or subdomains, WP will cause the subdomains to either get caught in an infinite loop or resolve to your root directory.

I nifty workaround is here. https://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2007/09/25/wordpress-23-canonical-urls/ Scroll to the bottom and click the “online plugin” at the bottom of the article. Save install as a plugin and shazam, your subdomains and domains pointing at your blog directory will function again.

I have (had) two blogs on GoDaddy. One WordPress, one Blogger.com. Well, Blogger.com isn’t AT GoDaddy..obviously.

When I started the one at Blogger.com which is located at https://rebkin.com I sort of ?lost? my WP blog. It’s still there in the File Manager at GoDaddy but I can’t get to it.

After a lengthy correspondence with Godaddy — they’re ever so helpful — I created a subdomain (https://blog.rebkin.com). All my WP stuff is in a folder named Blog. I changed in the domain manager so that blog points to Godaddy’s IP number.

This doesn’t help. When I try to go to https://blog.rebkin.com I’m taken to my Blogger.com. Then I tried https://blog.rebkin.com/wp-admin and was taken to the log-in page for WP. However..when I login I’m taken to my Blogger.

GoDaddy tells me that I can change something in WP but when I look at all those files in there, they’re all .php files and that’s totally beyond me.

IS there anything I can do or is it lost forever?
