• Great news to all other GoDaddy fans – They now offer WP as one of the additional “Value Application”. (Personally, I’ve been begging them to do this for a year now – I’m so glad to see it’s finally here!)

Alas, our GoDaddy hosting issues are gone! Here’s the scoop right from GoDaddy:

WordPress is a semantic personal publishing platform (i.e., blog) with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It supports multiple users, categories, comments, bookmarklets, RSS syndication, several APIs, and weblogs.com ping, among other features.
To Set up WordPress in Your Linux Hosting Account

    1. Log in to your Account Manager.
    2. Under the Hosting & Email section, select Hosting Account List.
    3. Click Open next to the hosting account you want to modify.
    4. Under the Content section of the Hosting Manager, click the Value Application icon. The Application Manager displays.
    5. Read the disclaimer and click Accept on the Value Application Disclaimer page.
    6. Click Install next to WordPress.
    7. Enter your information in the required fields.
    8. Click Install.

I moved my hosting to GoDaddy the other day, and I tried the one-click install for WordPress. It did work, however it seemed to use some other database than the ones available to me on the hosting account. Little weird, that. It worked okay, but this other database was a) slow and b) not accessible through the mySQL option in hosting and thus not available to the phpmyadmin screen there.

On the upside, the copy of WordPress that was installed seemed to be stock. No weird changes or anything.

I’d still recommend installing it manually. You can control what database you use and have access to it, and it also gets you used to FTP’ing files, which is critical to configuring new things. And it’s not all that difficult anyway. Create a database in your hosting account, download WordPress, modify wp-config.php to point to your database, FTP the files over, run the install.php on the webpage. Simple.

BTW, Filezilla rocks. Great FTP client.

I recently installed Word Press on MySQL servers at my GoDaddy hosting account. It wasn’t pretty probably because I’m so lame at these things. Anyway if you have hosting with them and it’s on a the Linux server, I’m sure you’ve all heard they’ve enabled “One Click” install. Not!

For most users who just want to start a blog, navigating GoDaddy’s interface is a nightmare especially since most of us don’t log into the accounts to change things around much once we’re set up.”Metropolis” is the application manager within the Control Panel which you should be looking for that is if you can even get to the Control Panel!

So I’ve added some screen shots to ease the pain.

I don’t recommend the one click install at godaddy – still too many problems with it.
