• I recently installed wordpress on my godaddy hosted web site: www – dot – gunel -dot- info. While I have an admin account for myself and I clicked “anyone can register” and had their permissions set to “author” in settings, I am having difficulty with having other people register. When I try and register with a second email address myself, it either says something to the effect that an email has been sent (but no email is actually received in my inbox) or i get a response that says

“The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function.”

Does anyone know what’s going on?

  • ask godaddy to enable php mail or you will need to configure the smtp settings in wordpress admin with godaddy’s smtp info

you will be a lot better off if you just get php mail going

Let me know if you still need some help with this.

wow – that is a lot of hoops to jump through for mail set up. most hosts you do not have to do anything.

dear GDHosting, I followed all the instructions in the link you supplied and I have still not had any luck. I have also Emailed Go Daddy’s customer help and they said it’s not their responsibility. If you could offer further help, I’d appreciate it.

Update to GDHosting: actually I was able to solve the problem by changing the directions posted on the site you linked. if you disable smtp authentication, the email appears to work correctly. Please update your instructions accordingly.

Thanks for the feedback. We’ll take a look at the instructions.
