Going nuts with BOMs

Hi,
I use Notepad++ to edit files. I carefully encode all teh files in “utf-8 without BOM” but I still get once in a while a BOM that wrecks my layout in IE.
Should I change editors?
Is there a way to scan multiple files for BOMs to find them and eliminate them?
Why can’t I set Notepad++ to save in utf-8 without BOM by default instead of ANSI?
I’ve resaved my file so many times and I’m so bloody tired of the whole thing.
Any help would be much appreciated
