• As always these kind of plugins are always written for an imaginary catch-all user who, in this case, is the WordPress admin/site creator. However there are many other use-cases. For example the Editor, who doesn’t care to know how to develop a website, and is only interested in content management and editing, and maybe {perhaps} a little on-page SEO {I know, wishful thinking} but you take my point. The Walkthroughs, as Sidekick calls them need to be written for a specific user. Maybe this nuance is something that will come later ~ I hope so ~ because in my case, my site users are not site designers or developers, they are authors and editors, and they don’t want to know about {and I don’t want to bother them with} stuff to do with WordPress core files, for instance. I’m looking forward to seeing this product mature, but for this reason ~ sorry guys ~ can only offer a 3 out of 5 for the plugin, so far.

Thank you for that well thought out feedback Terence, we really appreciate it and no apology necessary.

I’ll start by saying that if a user does not have the appropriate role to execute an action, that Walkthrough will not show up. If a WT is appearing for a user that doesn’t have privileges on that action, please let us know ASAP.

Otherwise, you’re right in that for the moment, we’ve taken a shotgun approach to our Core Walkthroughs, especially with the first 30 that a free license gives you. As our core library grows, we will be able to add in those nuances you’re looking for.

As far as being able to adjust what your users can see specifically, that’s a feature that will come, as you say, as we mature.

Looking forward a few months, our new Composer Tool will allow developers like yourself to create Walkthroughs specific to your users, plugins and custom walkthroughs so we’re very excited about that!

Thanks again Terence and we look forward to your continued feedback.
