• I use this as a backup since I run many sites. It’s not a match for Akismet, but I find it quite adequate for my low traffic sites.

    Hi @hneufeld,

Thanks for the feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

We’re always looking for ways to improve the plugin. I’m curious in what way you feel that WP-SpamShield is not a match for Akismet? In every test we’ve ever seen, and in almost universal feedback we’ve received from users, it’s superior to Akismet in every way: accuracy, speed, security, etc. If you’re not finding this true on your site, we definitely would like to know so we can rectify the situation. Feel free to submit a support request, and we’ll be happy to look into it.

    Have a good one!

Well, you have caught my delinquency. I worked with this some months ago, and was just finally pushed into reviewing by your message on my admin panel! I don’t have the details, but I can give you a general overview.

The major issue for me was false positives. I had a number of regular commenters, on my personal blog especially, who had difficulty with posting comments. When I removed WP-SpamShield those problems went away. I’ve been using Akismet successfully on the impacted sites (2 sites), but using WP-SpamShield on all others, the majority of which were more web sites than blogs.

At this distance I lack the sort of data, such as what browser those users were using, and even which version of WP-SpamShield it was at the time. If you would prefer this review deleted I would have no problem with that.

I’m sorry to hear that you had some issues.

WP-SpamShield doesn’t have false positives — it uses a different method that can’t have false positives.

In the rare event you are getting reports from multiple users that their comments are being blocked, these are not false positives — it means you most likely have a conflict or configuration issue that is preventing the plugin from functioning properly.

    Please see these two FAQs:

    1. FAQ #2 – Q: How is it possible to have no false positives?
    2. FAQ #9 – Q: I think a legitimate user, comment, contact form, registration, or other submission may have been blocked. What’s going on here and what do I do?

If you have any further issues, please see the FAQs and Troubleshooting Guide, and then submit a support request. We’ll help you diagnose and fix any issues so that everything runs flawlessly. Have a good one.
