Good comment system but lacking in key areas

  • Good comment system that is very much similar to Disqus. However, it takes a while to load. Also, if you’re using regular WordPress comment system or even Jetpack, Spot.IM can’t migrate those comments to its system.

    If you have tons of comments from Jetpack or regular WordPress comment system, then Spot.IM is not for you. If you have no comments or if you feel the few you have are disposable, then give this service a try.

    I must also point out that it doesn’t work with Akismet and its spam blocking features are lacking. Prepare for a lot of hands-on work to get rid of spam. Also, when a comment is made on your site, Spot.IM does not deliver a notification to your email or even a notification directly from the WordPress dashboard.

    Liveblogging is also here, but I haven’t tried that yet. It also comes with several other cool features, but most folks only need the comment feature.

    I’m using it, and will continue to use it. I’m just hoping the developers will improve the whole experience.

    Secondly, I would love to address and elaborate on the issues you mentioned above;

    Currently, we enable automatic import from Facebook, Disqus, Livefyre and HyperComments. The good news is we are currently working on WP import as well which should be ready in the next few weeks. I will be happy to touch base with you once it’s live. Also, notifications for admins are in our roadmap and following that feedback I’ll push this feature up the ladder for you.

    As for moderation — Spot.IM has a sophisticated and robust moderation system, in which Akismet is one of the pre-integrated tools. We also have Google malicious links and file detection, Similar Web anti-porn and custom-built pattern recognition to keep spammers away and alert you on suspicious behaviour. For fine tuning you can also add restricted words, blacklist user/IP and reply from the moderation panel. If you think the system missed detecting spam, please let us know so our team can review the issue specifically. I’m also happy to jump on a call with you to give you a full overview.
