Good plugin, but expensive

I want new users to be approved by admin, but just for a simple task like that i have to by pro for 79$ a year. Way to expensive for a feature other plugins have for free. And in a week i got a fake user to my site.
It′s also not good that they without warning changed the plugin completely, that probably caused a lot of problems, luckily for me it went ok.
It also have a bug with the admin bar, and i did not get an answer from support.
That said, the login and registration pages are beautiful, but i deleted this and went for my other member-plugin, got a bad feeling.
