• Using this plugin is easy and it does exactly what it says, diminishes the size (weight) of your site’s images.
    But.
With the free version, you can only smush 50 images at a time for sites that already have existing content. So, if you have a lot of images to optimize it takes quite awhile and numerous clicks.
Also, there is a big push to sign up for the pro version but beware that signing up for the pro version includes, by default, signing up for the WPMU DEV package and all of its other features that are for multi-sites.
The pro version is also expensive and in my mind not worth it unless you are managing many sites and do not already have the features it includes.

    Hey @amrandco,

Thank you for your detailed feedback about Smush.

WP Smush sends images to our servers for optimization, once they are optimized it send back images to your site and deletes them from our servers. Since Smush is used by over a million websites, we have to put some limitations on the free version to keep everything running smoothly.

We also offer a 30-day free trial which you can use to optimize all your images with one click as trial version doesn’t have any limitations.

Also, you don’t need to use the multi-site version of WordPress as most of our plugins work with a single site as well (unless they are designed specifically for multi-site).

Rest of the services and plugins that come with WPMU DEV membership are not required and you can only use WP Smush Pro, the only thing that is required in order to unlock premium features during the trial is our WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin.

I understand how it can be hard to decide on premium because of the price if you are managing only one site. If you have any pricing questions it would be best to get in touch with our billing department here: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/#i-have-a-billing-question

    Cheers,
    Oguz
