Good Start – Easy Restore needed for sites down

    Overall, this is a very nice plugin, with a nice UI.

    Two things prevent it from being a great plugin.

    First – if a site goes down completely and needs to be restored, the current process is to FTP a file to the host, and restore from there. The most ideal way would be to have a restore directly from the WPTC admin page on service.wptimecapsule.com. This would simplify the restore process a lot.

    Second – the time it took to do the initial backup of the site I tested it on was just over 3 hours. And this was for a site of only 145 MB with a 5 MB database. Three hours for that size site would mean that a 1 GB size site might take up to 24 hours…. This is way too slow.

    Very nice concept though, and the incremental backup process is the key.

    In regards to the first suggestion of simplifying the restore process, we are working on an exactly similar solution and we intend to get it out soon ??

    Whereas in regards to the long time taken for the first backup, this definitely depends upon your server configuration, upload speed, repository chosen and a lot more factors. S3 has the fastest upload and processing times. And just like in the previous updates, we will continue to deliver a much faster and slicker plugin than ever since we are continually understanding the trends and usage patterns in addition to optimizing the backup speed. There is definitely a lot of scope for improvement here so thanks once again for the feedback.

    Excluding the first backups, the second and future incremental backups would be amazingly fast and will happen at lightning speed. I can assure you of that! Just like you mentioned, incremental backup process is the key, we feel that incremental backups are the future of WordPress backups and we intend on making it really big with WPTC ??
