• Using MistyLook 3.7.2 by Sadish, standard theme widgets. Had successfully used text widgets to add one Google adsense image ad to sidebar, and one set of Google adsense links. Everything has been working fine – ads displaying correctly in sidebar on home page, in individual posts, category views of post summaries, all tabbed pages, etc.

I have no custom code of any sort.

I moved the sequence of the text widgets for the sidebar ad and link ad, and now they no longer appear on the home page. They continue to appear just fine in the sidebar on all other views, pages, individual posts.

Presumably, the sidebar code is the same, period. So, I’m a little confused as to why it would cease to display ads (though the widget slots are partially present) on the home page, while still working elsewhere.

    Sample home page: https://dailyplateofcrazy.com

    Sample post specific view: https://dailyplateofcrazy.com/2010/01/16/speedos-shorts-racquet-sports-australian-open-2010/

    Sample tabbed page view: https://dailyplateofcrazy.com/about-2/

On the home page, a horizontal sliver of the widget area appears where the ad ought to be. (I have tried deleting them altogether and rebuilding, as well as moving them around. No success.)

    Has anyone encountered this?

I primarily view via Firefox. Same holds true when viewing through IE, however also note my paragraph tags don’t create line of space to nicely format ads in IE.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or recommendations.

  • The code for the ads is present on your Home page but it seems that Google is not returning any ads for that page.

how many ads do you want?
i can see already three google ads showing in the content area; and that is as far as i know the maximum amount google will allow in a page.

Thank you both for responding so quickly. Much appreciated.

I wanted one image ad and one small set of links in the sidebar. I previously had that and it was working fine.

I also place one medium square and sometimes an additional small horizontal image ad at the end of a post (I often write long, so there is not visibility of sidebar ads and post-end ads simultaneously.)

I thought that it was acceptable as the content post had at most 2 ads, and the sidebar one ad + 1 group of links.

Since it worked previously (and I simply rearranged the sequence of widgets in the sidebar), I thought it was Google compliant. Alchymyth – would you mind specifying what you mean by “the content area” – the totality of the page including sidebar, or the area containing the post?

Might you have an idea why everything displays as it had previously, when looking at a single post?

    Your recommendation?

Thanks so much for the help.

in my reply i referred to ‘content’ area as the wide left column; and when you scroll down on the front page you can see and count a lot of google ad spaces, not all of which are actually showing ads.
as i said before, to my knowledge google will only display 3 ads on a given webpage, regardless of its size and length. as your left column gets ‘filled’ first during the execution of the webpage, this number 3 gets used up within the article area – none left for the sidebar, although your dedicated sidebar ad area may be visible higher up.
you best bet is to restrict the ads in the articles to one ad, leaving two ads to show in the sidebar.
you can find answers on how to show only one ad with the posts in the forum ??

    Thank you Alchymyth,

Your clarification of what Google considers the content area helps.

I’ve put page breaks more consistently into my posts, and as ads won’t show until <b>Continue Reading</b> is clicked, that seems to be solving the problem as Google wouldn’t read an excess of ads.

    Many thanks.

(Still have a strange IE placement issue for both top of ad in sidebar and visit count – both text widgets. Will look in forum for that.)

Again – appreciate the explanation so I could solve this.
