    Hi, Hector!

I have automated Google Adsense ads on my website for over a year. And I’ve just tested them, and noticed something:

There is a type of ads which triggers, when user visits another page. This ad is shown between pages. If you close it, then it redirects you to desired page. The link has to be opened in this tab, in order it to work. New tab won’t trigger this ad.

So I tested this type of ads, and all of them work, except for your popular posts links. Even though they are opened in the same tab.

I have popular posts added in sidebar (Cards compact), and I added / moved needed styles in my theme’s folder a long time ago, so they won’t be rewritten by plugin’s update.

So, do you have any thoughts, why popular posts don’t trigger the ads?

Thanks in advance for an answer!

    Hi @giorgos93,

So, do you have any thoughts, why popular posts don’t trigger the ads?

Possibly because the built-in themes are Self-Contained Web Components which may be preventing Adsense from injecting their code into your popular post links.

I say “possibly” because I don’t know for sure, I don’t use Adsense on my website so I can’t check if that’s what’s causing WPP links not to display the ad on click. One quick way for you to find out: set your Popular Post widget’s theme to None, clear your site’s cache, then check again.

I’ve just set my theme to ‘None’, and yes: Adsense ad did appear.

But I have a feeling, that everything worked before. I tested it several months ago and it worked fine, I believe.

Anyway: is there any way, how to fix it without changing theme? Or I should just forget about it and open links in new tab, as I did before?

Looks like I was right then ??

is there any way, how to fix it without changing theme?

Not sure. Does Adsense provide a way to trigger these ads manually via JavaScript?

To be honest, I have no idea. I use automated ads (code that I put in my header.php), and it does everything for me. And I have a couple manually inserted ad blocks (in articles and header). But I don’t know anything about triggering ads inside links.

I guess, I’ll open popular posts in new tabs then ?? There is no point of leaving them opened in the same tab in my case anymore.
