• Hello, I recently started using Google Adsense. I placed a small add in the sidebar on the main page and a small banner ad at the bottom of posts.

What’s strange is that when I stated this my traffic (numbers via Google Analytics) dropped off dramatically. My first thought was these ads make people mad. But I turned off the ads and the traffic numbers picked back up. So I turned the ads back on and numbers fell again. It seems like something is wrong as I seemed to have more visitors via comments and incoming links for one post one day than Analytics shows!

Anyone have an idea on this? Are ads blocking Analytics or something? I’m stumped as to what to do as the low numbers are disheartening.

This should not happen unless editing your theme to add Adsense somehow messed up your coding to prevent/delay pages or Analytics from loading. Check your site with a validator:

Just in case it isn’t, the Analytics code should be placed just before the closing </body> tag so that it loads last and does not slow down the rest of your page’s loading.
