Google analytics can't be accessed and website appearing in background of admin

  • Something strange is going on. I’ve been away and everything seemed fine. Once back, WP can no longer access Google Analytics, and my website’s background is somehow appearing in the background of all my Pages & Posts administrative panels. All my Page listing info and Post listing info is now certered (opposed to ragging left), and where Google Analytics should appear, instead I have the left hand column of my website. It takes forever to load and is a burden to scroll through. I’ve turned off Google Analytics in the “Screen Options” which helps, but the background image of my website still loads after a brief pause with normalcy. I loaded Yoast WordPress SEO prior to leaving on holiday, but it wasn’t doing this before, and when I deactivate it, it made no difference. Can anyone help?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Will go through your list and try. I’m still new at this, so bear with me. When you deactivate, do you lose all your settings? I don’t quite understand your last point. Could you provide steps to do this? I much appreciate your help.

    Any decent plugin should retain all of its settings. These should only be deleted if/when you delete the plugin via the WordPress dashboard. With themes, their settings are currently retained ad finitum – whether they are active or not.

    So turning off your plugins and switching your theme shouldn’t cause you to loose anything.

    I don’t quite understand your last point.

    There’s always an outside chance that you have a corrupted WordPress core file. So we suggest deleting the wp-admin and wp-includes folders and then re-uploading freshly downloaded copies using FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides). Ditto with all files in the WordPress root folder with the exception of your .htaccess file (if you have one) and your wp-config.php file. The wp-content folder should be left alone.

    None of this will impact on your site when it is complete. All of your content etc will still be safely stored in your database.

    Alright. After deactivating my plugins, I’ve figured out that the problem stems from “Google Analytics Dashboard”. I’m postulating that when I came home and performed the prompted updates for my plugins, this one must have updated which is why the problem is new to me (is there a way to confirm this?) I’ve turned it off, but wondering what’s next. Do I wait for the next update to come around then see if my bug has been fixed? Can I get the version before and reinstall it? Or will I simply have to adjust to not having the analytics for my Pages and Posts? Should I be notifying the people behind this plugin? I haven’t run in to this type of problem before (I’m relatively new at managing my website), so your guidance is much appreciated.
