    Greetings.

I’m a bit of a novice at website development. I have one through WordPress.com which I have no issues with. With the www.ads-software.com site, however, I’ve created a mountain of issues with my relatively new website.

From the beginning, I’ve struggled to get things started so I solicited help from wpbeginners who set up the site using the Themify “Fullpane” theme. However, all the content needs to be changed along with the remaining design options, etc. I was struggling with it so I decided to shift to the task of setting up Google Analytics. I used this video for the step-by-step instructions:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPYx-eS4gyE&ab_channel=MariahMagazine

    1. The last instruction was to test the site to see if it works. However, once I published the site to test it I couldn’t unpublish the site. That was my first and greatest issue.

    2. To resolve that issue, I installed the Seedprod plug-in and created a coming soon page which never shows up. One can only see the background that was created along with the links and content that wpbeginners added to the site when accessing the site now.

    3. However, when in the Theme/Customize mode, you only see other info that wpbeginners have created, and I can’t figure out where to change it, which brings me to my next issue:

    4. Also, in Theme/Customize, there are a bazillion Google Analytics errors at the top of the page. Suspecting that I embedded the GA code in the wrong place, I removed it. The errors are still appearing, however.

At this point, I’m completely at a loss as to how to get these issues addressed. I reached out to Themify about my issue with the code and this is how they responded.

`It seems you have placed the code in the wrong area. You can simply paste it in Themify Settings > General > header code.

Although the errors don’t seem to be related to the theme. Go to appearance > themes and switch to the default theme like 2020 and retest the issue.

If it gets fixed please try reinstalling the theme and let us know if the errors are resolved.`

I followed their instructions to place the Global Site Tag code in the Settings/General/Header code, and I also changed themes as suggested to no avail. As a matter of fact, those errors flashed on the screen of the other theme as well. But the very fact that the content showing in the Theme/Customize is different from the actual site when it is loaded is quite problematic.

As you can see, I’m in need of some serious advice, so any suggestions will be wonderful.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Sorry to hear of your frustrations. Self hosting is more challenging, but you will get to grips with it.

If I visit the site. I see the coming soon page: https://snipboard.io/iNMml2.jpg
Try using a different browser, or the incognito window in Chrome.

Clear any caches if the site is using a caching plugin. In fact, it is better not to use a caching plugin when developing the site, as you want to see the changes wuthout having to clear the cache.

If you still see errors, and you have only really started, then you could use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-reset/ to delete all the site settings and customisations you have made, and start afresh. Note that this process is not-reversable unless you take a database backup first.

    Good luck!

Thank you so much. You gave me so much peace of mind with your words of encouragement and the fact that on other browsers, the coming soon feature was working properly. Per your suggestion, I’ve elected to reset the site, and to my utter satisfaction, I’m not even getting the coming soon page anymore. Now, I can sigh relief and take my time to do it right. Thank you so much once again. Hopefully, this crazy ride is over now.

    Take care.

Fantastic. I’m happy to hear you are back up and running again, with renewed belief that I can do this.

I have one more piece of advice:

add a backup plugin and take daily (or x per day) backups of the database (this is where all the settings are stored). So, if the worst comes to the worst, you can always roll back to where the site development was recently. Alos schedule regular (but less frequent) backups of the site file/folders.
