Google Analytics Data nor matching Woocommerce Data

    Hi there!
    I know this is a common problem but I have been through the support threads and haven’t found an answer.

    The revenue reflected in Woocommerce is much greater than the revenue shown for the same time period in GA. I have been back through transactions, and the transactions that are tracked in Google Analytics are for the same amount as in Woocommerce (so there is no discrepancy within a single transaction). There are three different payment methods but no single one is being missed (the transactions that are reflecting in GA come from all three payment methods). The timezones on WP and GA are the same.

    Please note that I am from the marketing agency and di not develop the website, so really trying to find what the issue is.

    Hey there!

    The revenue reflected in Woocommerce is much greater than the revenue shown for the same time period in GA.

    The WooCommerce reports might count more orders due to this setting: https://d.pr/i/gDb98U

    I am not sure how GA handles things, but that would be the first settings I would check to see whether that is causing a discrepancy.

    No, not that simple, unfortunately – Cancelled, Pending Payment and Failed have all been excluded on the Woocommerce Analytics settings. So that wouldn’t account for the higher revenue figure

    On both reports:
    – Are the captured transactions similar?
    – Are the revenue figures for each transaction comparable?

    No, still a mystery. To answer your question:
    The transactions captured on Google Analytics are identical to the ones captured in Woocommerce
    The revenue figures per transaction are identical.

    It is just that there are entire transactions missing in Google Analytics that are being tracked in Woocommerce.

    I had this issue about 2 years ago with a different GA plugin, it was down to one of my payment methods not opening a thank you page after the customer checked out on all occasions due to custom order status processing we have in place. Once we made sure the thank you page was opened for the customer no matter the order status the e-commerce tracking began to line up correctly.

    I would hazard a guess that the majority of support tickets for this issue are down to issues with the thank you page loading correctly or not when the customer checks out.

    Hope this may be of some use to the dev team here and any users reading with similar issues.

    As @nanasflowers mentioned, the plugin requires a payment gateway that redirects to the thank you/order received page after payment. Otherwise, tracking will not work. I see that all three payment methods on the site are from third-party developers and not from WooCommerce.com so we will not be familiar enough with them to confirm if they are the cause of the problem.

    However, you can reach out to them to confirm compatibility or use a payment gateway from WooCommerce.com like Stripe, PayPal powered by Braintree, PayPal Express Checkout and Square.

    That is kind of what I was thinking – transactions from all three payment gateways have recorded, but what if a user leaves the payment gateway AFTER the transaction is successful but BEFORE the URL redirect is effected? Would that result in a drop in tracking?

    Good thinking, and yes, this would not track a purchase.

    We mention this in the Purchase Transactions section:

    This requires a payment gateway that redirects to the thank you/order received page after payment. Orders paid with gateways which do not do this will not be tracked.

    So if a customer closes after the off-site confirmation but before the “Thank You” page, this won’t track as a purchase.
