Google Authorship & Display Name
-
Good Afternoon,
For Google Authorship the author’s name in the site byline must match exactly to the author’s profile name in the linked Google+ Personal Profile. If a user adds a nickname to their Google+ Personal Profile the byline populates the full profile name and in addition to, the nickname but if a page is tested in the structured data testing tool an error returns that the author’s name is unknown.
Google+ Name Policy, subsection Add a Nickname – https://support.google.com/plus/answer/3298988:
A nickname can be displayed in addition to your profile name, such as John “Moose” Davis. You can also display other names you go by, like professional affiliations, or “Dave” in addition to “David.”
The first line in the above paragraph, especially “in addition to your profile name” brings me to the conclusion that the first and last name is the profile name, therefore the profile name only should be displaying for authorship purposes.
I don’t believe Google will use the nickname for authorship, is there a way to only display the profile name?
