Currently we are using Complianz (free edition) on a bunch of client websites. For most of these clients we use Google Tag Manager.

I did some research on the Consent Mode V2 in combination with Complianz and I “see” that it’s implemented in the premium version. But how I understand is that this premium implementation is only needed when you load every tag through the plugin and the Complianz plugin handles the consent.

We are using Google Tag Manager most of the times. Is the paid / premium version still a requirement for consent mode v2?

If so, can you explain why?
And if not, does the premium version of complainz makes the configuration in GTM easier somehow?

    Thanks in advance!

    Chris

    Hi @chrisschrijver,

I think you will require an implementation of Consent Mode V2 regardless of whether you implement the tags through Complianz. As per this article by Google (https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/13695607?hl=en): “If a user from the EEA is using your website or app and you measure user behavior with Google tags, you need to pass through end-user consent choices to Google”.

Consent Mode V2 support is indeed included with the Premium version of this plugin.

    Kind regards, Jarno

Hello, does it mean that only if in plugin will be enable function for Consent Mode V2, which will be aviable only in paid version, will new two consent (switchers for agree or disagree) be able to setup/show? So in free version there will be no option how to show these two new consents ( switchers ) without using the mode? Because as @chrisschrijver mentioned, it is also possible to set up Consent Mode V2 on GTM side, but it is important to have these two switchers in plugin.

Could you please confirm that there will be no option to show those two new consent switchers in free version of plugin?

    Hi @franktomas,

Could you explain what is meant by a “consent switcher”, and how this is related in the context of Google Consent Mode?

    Kind regards, Jarno

    Sure

i mean this consent setup for visitors (screen is from Onetrust solution) – https://prnt.sc/A5DIn3etw7vg

last two option is new and i would like to know, if will be possible to show these option also in free version or not.

    Hello @franktomas,

In the context of this plugin, the recently introduced Google Consent Mode V2 parameters (ad_user_data, ad_personalization) will be updated to granted when the user consents to at least the “Marketing” category in the banner (or uses the “Accept All” button instead).

But to reiterate, implementing Consent Mode V2 via Complianz still requires the Premium version of the plugin.

    Kind regards, Jarno

    Hello,

Are you sure that these new consents (ad_user_data, ad_personalization) could be under marketing category instead of having for each of them separate category?

Because according to the article from Google – https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/13695607?hl=en

    They are saying:

If a user from the EEA is using your website or app and you measure user behavior with Google tags, you need to pass through end-user consent choices to Google.?Consent mode?allows you to adjust how your Google tags behave based on the visitor’s interaction with the consent banner on your website.

I am not sure if this is not against the logic to put these two new tags under the marketing category, because then you are not able to give visitor decision, if he would like agree with “ad_user_data” tag or “ad_personalization”.

Of course it will be much more simpler if these two new tags will be under marketing category for acceptence, i am just not sure if it correct solution according to Google changes.

    Hi @franktomas,

The attached sentence doesn’t state anything about the toggles on your Cookie Banner, right?

With the highlighted sentence (passing the user’s consent choices to Google), Google is informing you that they are going to require a correct implementation of Consent Mode, if you use Google Tags for measurement.

You might also be interested to know that the Consent Mode V2 implementation in Complianz Premium is verified by Google themselves. You will find Complianz listed as a verified CMP & Consent Mode partner on Google’s CMP Partner Program page.

While I would be happy to discuss the matter further, note we may only discuss the Free plugin on the WordPress Forums. Please reach out to us through https://complianz.io/support/ for further inquiries about the Premium plugin or its’ features.

    Kind regards, Jarno
