Hi,

Recently, Google has disabled the use of Places API for free and introduced the mandatory enabling a Billing.?Unfortunately, since the plugin uses this Places API to show reviews, you need to enable Billing on your Google account. It’s a limitation of Google, not specifically the plugin.

You can enable a Billing here?https://console.cloud.google.com/project/_/billing/enable and learn more about it here?https://developers.google.com/maps/gmp-get-started.

Don’t worry, Google is currently giving $200 free credit a month and it should be enough to use the plugin for connecting?several Google places without additional fees except this free $200 credits.

If you have any questions please?let us know.

    Thanks!

I created (and input) the Google Places API key, I input my business’ Place ID, I also set up billing on the Google Cloud Platform and yet I’m still getting the “enable Billing” error when I try to enter my Place ID.

Does Google API Console need to request access to Google My Business? After searching the internet for a while, I found this:

    https://developers.google.com/my-business/content/prereqs

Where Step 4 is “Request access to the API”

    Hi @jwoodbrows,

The free plugin uses a public Google Places API, there’s no needed access to your GMB owner account and your Google place may not be verified.

If you still see the message about a billing, please check that it’s really enabled if so, I think you need to send debug information to support[at]richplugins.com and we will also check this.

    Thanks!

So even though we now have to enable billing, we will not be charged for the use of the plugin?

    Hi @csidb,

As far as I know, yes, you do not need to pay because Google gives $200 free credits and it’s enough to use the plugin for several places, of course if you do not have a directory/listing’s site for hundreds places.

However, we are not Google and can’t know how it will work for your and how it will work in the future, because it’s a very confusing due to many changes.

    Thanks!

    Hi @topsan123,

Google no longer provider the API without a billing, but gives $200 credits for free, please see my previous answer https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/google-error-you-must-enable-billing-on-the-google-cloud-project/#post-13016049

It’s a limitation of Google, not the plugin or us.

    Thanks!

Thanks for your info. I understand that.

    – The thing is that when I use your plugin for the first time, I don’t have any problem as I already enabled billing.

    – Later I removed my billing and tried to add it back again but I faced a problem. There is an error in my Google billing page even though I successfully added my credit card and verified my payment. I solved this error by selecting this payment as “primary”

    – However, in the plugin shortcode page, I still received the error as mentioned by the article author above even though I successfully enabled billing. I solved this issue by regenerating a new API key and it works. In this case, regenerating a new API key is required to solve this error, right?

    Hi @topsan123,

If you have two or more API key in Google Console, I think you need to check if you enabled the billing for the right Google project who has the API key which uses in the plugin.

If it’s not help, better if you ask this to Google, the plugin uses Google Places API and you can check your API request by this link:

    https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/details/json?placeid=<YOUR_PLACE_ID>&key=<YOUR_GOOGLE_API_KEY>

And if it returns the same error, the issue is not in the plugin, rather on Google side.

    Thanks!

But of course – Google can change their policy at any moment, remove the free $200 credit, and you’ll start being charged – they can also change their prices for usage at any time…
