I have been using your wonderful plugin for several years now on a variety of websites. I have double checked and all of the settings for the Google account/api are setup correctly, and its connected to WP Mail SMTP. When I send a test from the “Tools” screen everything goes through without any warnings. However, just recently, we notice that the contact form submissions are landing in the spam folder. This is true even when the submission is being delivered to a Google / Gmail account. So essentially, its 1 Google account sending and email to another Google account. I can provide you with the email message head if you wish? I appreciate your time and hope you can help me iron out this issue?

    Hi, @zerojjc!

Thanks for reaching out, and we’re sorry for the trouble.

Please know, that the WP Mail SMTP plugin is responsible for sending emails from your website. Our plugin routes all emails to the mailing service (chosen mailer, in this case, “Google/Gmail”), and the mailing service is responsible for the email receiving.

So, the WP Mail SMTP plugin just bridges a connection between your WordPress site and your email mailing service (mailer).

For example, you have a form on your website -> the user submits it -> sending of the notification email about the submission is triggered -> this email goes to the WP Mail SMTP plugin -> WP Mail SMTP plugin routes this email to the mailer -> mailer will send and deliver it further.

When you have trouble getting emails or getting them into the “spam” folder, such an issue could occur if the needed DNS records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) are not added to your sender domain, or set up incorrectly, and/or your email deliverability score is low because previously you were sending not authenticated emails or you are blacklisted.

You need to make sure that you’ve followed all the steps in our guides on how to set up a mailer.

Also, check your email deliverability score here. And you’ll get a report with issues and ways to improve.

If everything is set up correctly, please, reach out to your chosen mailer support about the status of those emails. They’d hopefully be able to help!

    Kind regards.

    Hello @sakalvictoria,

Thank you for your reply. I can see that the spam test score is a 9.9/10. DKIM and SPF are setup. It is a gmail account which is used for sending. Here are some screenshots: https://ibb.co/SmNmBcg / https://ibb.co/hdZDYJB.

I have also verified that the mailer was setup correctly. It has been setup and working properly for about a year or so, and just recently it started sending to spam. I have setup the Google Mailer option on hundreds of sites and have found that if there was an issue with the Api, Credentials, or OAuth then WP Mail SMTP prints the error and I can quickly fix it. However, from everything I can tell, there is no issues at all with these sending or delivering. Spam tests pass, DKIM and SPF are in, but multiple recipients are finding the messages in their spam folder.

I guess I was just hoping there may have been something you all may have noticed recently, or a change/update that was made, that might be causing this? I know you mentioned reaching out to the mailer support, but that is Google/Gmail, and I don’t think there is any way to reach out to them.

    Best,

    Hey, @zerojjc!

    Thanks for following up.

I’m sorry, but there is nothing we can do, as WP Mail SMTP is responsible for the email sending from the website, and when an email is sent, further deliverability is out of our control.

You can try another Google/Gmail account/email address to send emails or switch to another mailing service.

    Kind regards.
