• I’ve started with WPGlobus and noticed that Google indexed many pages with a “/es/” in the url corresponding to my default language. But being my default language my URLs don’t have that “/es/”.

    What can I do to correct this?

    Right now I’m having lots of 404. I’ve tried to redirect those links but didn’t work, my understanding of .htaccess is null.

    The /es/ should not be a problem because it’s automatically redirected to no-es by WordPress.

    I see that Google also shows /ru/, /fr/ and /de/. If you do not plan to have those languages, then you can just wait until Google removes them from the index.

    I’m afraid that is not happening in all the cases, I’m getting many 404’s from google results.
    You can see an example here, this result will lead you to a 404.

    1. I guess I do not see the same results on Google as you. Maybe because I am looking from a different part of the World. Maybe you can post a specific URL here?

    2. My understanding of your situation is: you have published the site with several languages, including DE, FR, and RU, and your primary language was set to EN. Google has indexed the site in that state. Later you removed some of the languages and changed the primary one to ES. Is that correct?

    SEO experts say that Google eventually will reindex the site and remove all 404 pages from the index. If you need to expedite the process, you should talk (hire) to someone who will analyze your site, make the necessary changes in .htaccess and maybe find a way to resubmit to Google (via its Webmaster console, probably).

    Great answer Gregory, your guesses are correct. I’ll wait to see if Google reindex it correctly, in fact I’ve seen one of their results have changed to the correct URL. Let’s hope it doesn’t take long.
