    Hello!

    I have a website where the main language is Bulgarian. It is translated to English with WPML including all products. In every product I see the error below. Noting is synced with google merchant because of that. Can you advise please?

    I understand the synchronization issues you’re having between your website with Google Merchant due to the language settings. The error you’re seeing is because Google Merchant Center only accepts product data in certain languages, specified by two-letter ISO 639-1 language codes.

    Unfortunately, as of now, Google Merchant Center does not support Bulgarian (bg) as a product data language. This explains why you’re seeing this error.

    A possible solution could be to sync only your English product data to Google Merchant Center, as English is widely supported across platforms. You can manage this by selecting the specific language in WPML settings and synchronizing only those products.

    Hi,

    Above you mentioned something which was a suggestion from experience or just gues? Because I had the impression that it is something specific that I have to do. However I am not sure that the issue is WPML related. I have Bulgarian and English version of my products. I need to find a way to sync with YOUR plugin only the English version.

    Thanks for the clarification. To be sure I understand what’s going on here you have two versions of your products, English and Bulgarian and you want to sync the English product to Google Listings and Ads. Is this right?

    Are there actually two separate products, or is it one product which has been translated into two versions?

    If you have two separate products, you can choose to exclude the Bulgarian product following the Don’t Sync and Show settings.

    If you’ve tried this already and are unable to sync the English version, please let us know!

    I think the problem is that the Bulgarian version is the main language which cannot be synced for the reason above and the English version inherits the settings from the Bulgarian version. When I go to the Feed settings in the English version in your plugin I see all products in English. I mark them and select Sync and show, but I get this error again – “[contentLanguage] Content language bg is not supported. Value must be two-letter ISO 639-1 language code.”

    So somehow the Enlish version of the product is categories by your plugin as if it is in Bulgarian which is not the case.

    Okay, thanks for the information. Well, that makes a bit of sense. Google Listings & Ads detects your site’s default language, which is found under Settings > General.

    It may be worth a shot switching the default language to English to see if this changes anything. It should be noted that WMPL isn’t one of our products, so we can’t offer too much insight into the inner workings. It may be helpful to reach out to their support as well for any insight.     I understand that it takes the default site language but there must be a way to workaround that.

    Switching to English as default language will mess all slugs, permalinks and SEO of the website. So this is not an option for now.

    Again I think that WPML has nothing to do with the problem and solution.

    Can you consider a solution to workaround the detection of the default site language by the plugin?

    I understand why you are hesitant to change the default language of your site. Unfortunately, at this time there aren’t too many other workarounds to offer. The root of the issue is that Google Listings doesn’t accept Bulgarian.

    It may be worthwhile toggling back and forth between default languages, but be sure to backup first.

    I also wonder if there are any third-party plugins which might be interfering with this sync, would you mind sharing your System Status Report?

    Hi,

    Changing permalinks and slugs is not an option as we will loose SEO rankings. So changing the language is not a way to fix the issue.

    I cannot understand why there is an issue if I have correctly translated English version of our webstie and its products. There have to be a way to sync only the English feed where everything is correct without changing so many things. I think this is a major issue that has to be fixed somehow…

    Hi there,

    Thanks for sharing the site status report, I see your site has 48 active plugins so a conflict is also possible.

    Changing permalinks and slugs is not an option as we will loose SEO rankings. So changing the language is not a way to fix the issue.

    As mentioned previously, we don’t have any other workarounds to share at the moment. If changing the slugs and language on the live site is not possible, then you may consider creating a staging site and checking on it (I’d recommend connecting the staging site to a different Google Merchant Center account).

    If the issue persists even after this, then I’d recommend conducting a conflict test per https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-self-service-guide/#section-4

    Hi,

    I tested that already 2 days ago. I made a staging environment and changed the default language and everythig else that was needed. Still all products were detected with a bg_bg language.

    I tried the following thing. I the frontend I checked the code of a product in bulgarian and in engliesh. The properties for the language for both versions were correct bg_bg for Bulgarian and en_en for the English version. Still the feed was not generated properly and the same error appears.

    So even when the main language is English somehow your plugin detects both translations as Bulgarian…

    Plugin compatibility is also tested and has nothing to do with the error.

    Please advise how we can fix the issue!

    Hi @dradosvetov,

    I’m afraid you cannot use Google Listings & Ads at this time. Here’s why:

    1. Your store’s language and currency is currently not supported by Google Merchant Center. You can see a list of supported locations and currencies here. This isn’t a plugin limitation but rather a Google Merchant Center policy and requirement.
    2. Incompatibility with WPML – Google Listings & Ads is currently not compatible with WPML. I recommend voting on the feature request to add support for WPML. For clarification, Google Listings & Ads typically sync products in the store’s language and currency. While you’ve translated the products to English with WPML, your store’s location is probably still in Bulgaria. Google Listings & Ads uses your store’s settings and product feed data and if it’s detecting Bulgaria, that’s simply what’s being passed in your feed.

    We’d love to help further, however, your store and product data simply have to meet Google Merchant Center policies and requirements.

    If you create a new site that’s set to a supported location, language, and currency and then add your products in a supported language, you’ll find your products will sync seamlessly.

    I just managet to sync the english feed with another plugin that works just fine.

    I’m glad to hear an alternative plugin worked for you. Just to be sure I understand correctly, you were able to sync with the alternative plugin with your store’s location, language and currency still in Bulgaria, correct?

    I’d like to confirm if it was just the incompatibility with WPML that I raised or if you actually made additional changes to sync with the alternative plugin. Thank you
