For some reason, even though my site ranks well on Google for certain search terms, when using SmartCrawl only the website URL shows in Google search results, not my website name. I’ve checked other websites I own that are not using this plugin and the search results do show the website name.

    Hello @angeljs

Hope you’re doing well today! I am sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing.

Can you please check if you have set up the title and meta based on the below screenshots?

    From SmartCrawl Settings: https://monosnap.com/file/CR9osRWCasX8TvDfBg8wlGIbHcJHgy

    From Homepage Settings: https://monosnap.com/file/aLKQz91qJneGeGEptDVEzEoUL9WeYR

Can you please let us know if any of the content from the above settings has only the website URL? If so, please try adding the website name in the “Title” field and see if that helps.

The site will need to be submitted for re-indexing so that the Google Spiders can crawl and update the content to be displayed on the search results page.

You can follow the guide below on how you can submit the website for re-indexing https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/ask-google-to-recrawl

Please note, that the re-indexing once requested may take a few days to weeks as it completely depends on Google and we don’t have any control over it.

Please do let us know in case the Site title on the homepage settings is correct and hasn’t been changed from a while.

    Kind Regards,
    Saurabh

Hmm, for the Smartcrawl settings I’ve added my actual site name and description, was I not meant to do that? The homepage ones seem okay.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Hello @angeljs,

Yes that’s absolutely fine to type the actual site name and description.

First of all, you may need to check if the site name actually appears in the meta tags, by viewing the HTML code on the frontend pages: https://www.wikihow.com/View-Source-Code

It should appear in the <head> section, at the beginning: https://prnt.sc/VJLEB9a0oQsi

Even if the site name has been set, and can be detected by search engines, Google still may not use it for displaying in its search results.

You can try applying their recommendations, in order to increase the chances of displaying it. For example, make sure that the site name is unique, it’s mentioned on the home page, and so on: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names#choosing-site-name

Please note, that you may need to wait for a couple of weeks before checking if the changes are reflected in Google.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Best Regards,
    Dmytro

Hi, yes, it’s definitely in the meta tags, I’ve checked it several times, which is why I don’t understand why it’s happening only with sites that use your plugin. ??

    Hi @angeljs,

Since the website URL that you observed this issue is not mentioned, we were unable to take a closer look at the issue. Would it be possible for you to share the website URL so that we can take a closer look?

If you search Google for ajbower, it’s the first site that shows, ajbower.uk.

I can take screenshots of my settings, if it would help?

    Hi @angeljs

I typed your domain URL in Google search and all listed pages including the homepage contain the page title, description, etc. Are you still facing the same issue, if so can you share a screenshot of how that looks from your side?

    Kind Regards,
    Kris

    Hi @angeljs,

When I check the title via the page source and the screenshot you have provided, both are the same ie the title in the screenshot and whats added to the site appear to be the same.

Is the issue with any specific page? Could you please check and advise?

Possible to also share the Title you have configured in the plugin side?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Nithin

Very sorry, but I don’t receive any reply notifications from this website. ??

This title is what I mean. Others have their title at the top of the search result, but mine doesn’t:

    Hi @angeljs,

What you have marked in the screenshot provided is the Site Name listed above the URL of the page, which is configured using Markup Schema. Please find more about Site Names in Google Search Results here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names

SmartCrawl fully supports default schema types, allowing you to effectively communicate your data to search engines. Please find more about the same here: https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/smartcrawl/#schema

I hope that helps. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any further clarification.

    Best Regards,
    Nebu John
