I am using the Google method for my WP Mail SMTP setup, which works fine on initial setup, but over time, the connection between the WP Mail SMTP plugin and the Google Mailer API is broken. I am not a 100% certain why this is, but I assume that every time the Google Account I use as the From email has it’s password changed, or any other OAuth settings are changed, then this connection breaks.

So I tried using the “Other SMTP” method, which works, but I do not want to use a google App Password with my account as this decreases security.

Is there any way I can use my google account with 2FA with WP Mail SMTP to send emails, without experiencing disconnects and without using a google App Password?

    Hi, @nowaka!

    Thanks for reaching out.

You are right, any time you make account-related changes, Gmail will disconnect. It’s because The OAuth token in Gmail will reset.

If you want to use 2FA, it requires you to use App Password. Also, this method is secure.

These are security features enforced by Google, and we can’t affect them.

    Kind regards.

Thank you Victoria for confirming this.

The issue with using an App Password for me, is that there is a security risk in this existing, as malicious users who could get a hold of this Password, could use my google account to send malicious emails.

Is there another method that would be more secure and reliable than using a Google account with this plugin?

    Hi, @nowaka!

    Thanks for following up.

Unfortunately, there is no other way to use Google/Gmail technically, and these requirements are not tied to the plugin itself.

    Kind regards.
