Google PageSpeed Insights Field Data vs Lab Data on mobile

    Hello!

    I’m experiencing a very high CLS in Google PageSpeed Insights for the average 28 day rate (Field Data) but then near zero for my real-time score (Lab Data). I’ve been watching this score for the passed month and the Field Data isn’t going down.

    Is there any setting you can point me to that I should look at? I just got done looking at caching as an issue but I couldn’t find anything that substantiated that. I had these pages all with a very low CLS for a long time but then it started getting flagged in early June.

    The two recommendations that GPSI recommends seem pretty insubstantial and are also recommended on pages that are not encountering this issue so I don’t believe they are the cause but I could be wrong.

    CLS can be a pain :-/

    Typically differences between lab being (a lot smaller) than field data is due to JS that runs after initial pageload, do you know if you have something doing that (typically advertising/ affiliate things)?

    From a quick glance at the HTML source I see Optimole (which I think is great) is doing some stuff late in the process, so maybe try without that for a couple of weeks to see if that makes a difference?

    Hi Frank,

    We believe we ruled out Optimole but still haven’t found any JS that we suspect to be causing this. We don’t do any advertising or affiliate js on these pages. Any other diagnostics you’d recommend us trying?

    you can try running Lighthouse from within Chrome on the URL’s that Search Console lists, to see if anything CLS-related pops up there?
