When setting up sharing to a Google+ account, the JetPack plugin does not give you the option to select the visibility of posts. It also ignores Google+ Collections.

Google+ used to give you the option to change the visibility of posts from other apps, but since the new G+ came along that has become somewhat tricky (I am still trying to find the setting!).

Oh and going back to collections, the sharing button doesn’t appear to be counting +1’s from collection shares.

G+ has had a new API in the last few weeks, so can we get some fixes please?

  • I tried the fix issued recently and still doesn’t work for me, either. No option to share publicly. Google+ is so screwy to get around anyway! Hope a new fix comes soon.

This is the one I tried:

That option was removed, Google+ doesn’t allow you to specify the privacy of the posts published via a third-party app anymore. For all new connections, you either publish publicly or not at all.

We’ve consequently worked with Google+ to update our app and Publicize, and we released those changes a few weeks ago; it’s now possible to use Publicize to post to Google+ again, but you can’t choose how your posts will be shared; they will always be public.

the sharing button doesn’t appear to be counting +1’s from collection shares.

Jetpack’s Google+ Sharing button doesn’t include sharing counts yet. That’s on our radar though; you can follow our progress here:

@lisamg Are your posts still shared privately, or are they not shared at all? Your posts may still be shared privately if you created your Publicize connection before we refreshed our app, and it will stay that way until you reconnect Publicize to Google+.

I hope this clarifies things a bit. Let me know if you need more help!

    Hi Jeremy,

My last few posts I’ve had to go in and change the setting to public in Google+. However, I had not deleted/reconnected Publicize prior. I did that yesterday, but I haven’t created a new post to see if it works yet.

I posted above in the midst of googling, finding this post, etc., so I know I seem a little out of step! Will let you know on my next post if it works properly.

    Thank you!

    Hi Jeremy,

Just letting you know it’s working great now. I wanted to test it a couple/few times before coming back here :).

    Thanks so much!
    Lisa
