  • Hi @wanderingon,

This problem with empty breadcrumbs in the schema data was fixed in version 14.1. See https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/15005

We didn’t find any breadcrumbs on the pages that are mentioned. Can you make sure that you’ve added Yoast SEO breadcrumbs to your pages? You can find the steps in this guide: https://yoast.com/help/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/.

If you’re not using Yoast SEO breadcrumbs, we recommend disabling the setting under SEO > Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Priscilla,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am glad to hear that the issue was resolved in 14.1. However, I am still unsure as to why I am having these issues on my site?

I have followed the guide/instructions here: https://yoast.com/help/implement-wordpress-seo-breadcrumbs/ and https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/how-to-add-breadcrumbs-to-your-wordpress-website (as UI am using the Divi theme).

After adding the code below to the end of the header.php file in my Child Theme, there are still no breadcrumbs displaying on my website. And, I am also still seeing the same issue regarding breadcrumbs on Google Console.

If you have any other suggestions as to how I can:
    a) resolve this issue with Google Console
    b) display breadcrumbs on my site correctly
    that would be great.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

@wanderingon If you are experiencing an issue with the breadcrumbs not appearing after having added the breadcrumbs code to your theme’s header.php file, we would recommend contacting your theme’s developers for additional assistance. As the exact best place to put the breadcrumbs code will vary and be dependent on the theme.

Regarding the warning you received in Google, can you please confirm you are using the most recent Yoast v14.1? You can learn more about updating here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/

    Thanks for your message @devnihil

I am using the Divi theme from Elegant Themes and have followed the instructions here: https://www.elegantthemes.com/blog/tips-tricks/how-to-add-breadcrumbs-to-your-wordpress-website However, I will contact them again and hopefully, they will find a solution.

With regards to the warning, yes, I am using the most up-to-date version of Yoast. Do you know what could be causing this issue and how I can resolve it?

    Thanks

@wanderingon We rechecked the page and do see that breadcrumbs are appearing now. Can you please try rechecking the URLs in Google Search Console and confirm whether the error is still appearing?

    Hi @devnihil,

I have rechecked the URLs in Google Console but I am receiving the following error:

    Cannot continue validation process
Affected pages were found. Fix the issue and run validation again

    N/A
    https://wanderingon.com/page/16/?cat=-1

    N/A
    https://wanderingon.com/?cat=-1

The breadcrumbs are appearing on the site but I am still getting this error in Google Console – any idea for I can solve this?

    Thanks

    Hi,

After further checking on view-source:https://wanderingon.com/page/16/?cat=-1 we can see in the source code that the breadcrumbs are expected to show 3 items in the pathway. Currently only HOME shows. The other two items lack a name to output so Google tosses out the error. See: https://pasteboard.co/J9t0hqQs.jpg.

We would like some more information.

    1. As a test if you were to switch your from your child them to your main Divi theme and then look at the source code of that page does it show the rest of the breadcrumbs? This guide explains more about how to look at the source code: https://yoast.com/help/view-page-source-site/

    2. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.4.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

    3. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    4. Does clearing your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser resolve the issue? If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/
