Google Search Console may see images indexed under old filename
-
Hello,
I solved my problem but I am just documenting this here in case it affects other people.
You might have your webpage images indexed by Google and part of their search engine like I did. In this case after I changed the name of my images, in Google Search Console it showed the old filename of the image that was no longer there.
This is easily fixed. First you must claim your domain in Google Search Console. Then you can go here:
https://search.google.com/search-console/remove-outdated-content
Make a new request and use the URL for the link that Google Search Console says is in error/redirect. It might be in either of these categories like it was for me.
Once they are submitted it can take up to 7 days for them to be removed.
If you don’t care about SEO or fixing Google Search Console errors then obviously you don’t need to do this.
Ok, this was just denied by the Google Search console. Forget what I said above. When I went to click on the links they showed the updated file names. I will request to recrawl them/reindex them and hopefully, that will fix the issue.
I wrote a post about this excellent plugin for my readers. https://chimac.net/need-to-rename-files-in-your-wordpress-media-library/
