    Hello
I sell clothing with various sizes eg.small, medium, large. All of my products are variants that belong to a specific item group ID.

    item_group ID 1000 / item ID 200 = Nike Shirt Size Small
    item_group ID 1000 / item ID 201 = Nike Shirt Size Medium
    item_group ID 1000 / item ID 202 = Nike Shirt Size Large

Both Nike shirt size small and large are showing up under search result as separate listing? Aren’t these variant suppose to be grouped together as a single product? When I clicked into these product, it shows description but it is not showing any size variant. It only says click here to shop for all sizes. When I click into other seller’s listing, I can see all variant sizes available. I already have Item_group ID for variant product. What seems ot be the problem? Anyone knows?

  • Hi Raymond,

Thanks for using our plugin and reaching out to us. Not sure if I understand your question correctly but both Google and Facebook require you to add the variants of a product to the feed and leave out the mother/simple product.

See our blog posts about it:
    https://adtribes.io/can-i-add-mother-products-to-my-feed-and-leave-out-the-variations/
    https://adtribes.io/how-to-add-variable-products-to-your-product-feeds/

So, you basically tell Google and Facebook that all the variants belong to one mother product (based on the item_group_id all having the same mother product ID) but you are not supposed to put in the mother product itself.

    Hope this makes sense?

    All the best,
    Eva

I already followed the tutorial and chose to include product variation. What do you mean by excluding the mother product? How do I do that within the plugin setting?

    item_group ID 1000 / item ID 200 = Nike Shirt Size Small
    item_group ID 1000 / item ID 201 = Nike Shirt Size Medium
    item_group ID 1000 / item ID 202 = Nike Shirt Size Large

Above is only a demo but when I perform a google shopping search, both variant came out as a search result. I would assume this is abnormal?

    Hi Raymond,

Apologies, you seemed to have misunderstood my answers so I might not have been clear enough. It is not possible to excluding mother products yourselves. The plugin already does so as Google and Facebook require you to only upload the product variations and not the mother products.

The example you are giving about the 3 variants are correct. Google sees those, rightfully, as three separate products (different size). So they can chose to display 1, 2 or all 3 of them in one shopping-serp.

When you do not want this to happen you can chose to exclude individual variant products by either create filters or select the ‘exclude this product from feeds’ option on the product edit pages.

    Hope this makes sense?

    All the best,
    Eva

Hello again, apologies for not writing back any sooner. I did a search on google shopping and found all competitors who sell apparel includes variants within the single listing. Say for example, ABC company sells a T-Shirts in two colors and 3 sizes. When I click onto that listing ad, it will show title, description, price, and variable options. You can choose color and sizes from the listing ad. I wish I can attach a photo here to explain the issue. But on my listing, I do not see any variants. I have already setup an item_group_id and to include product variants under the plugin. What am I doing wrong?

Also, for SKU, do I have to make it unique for every single variant? Or can I leave it the same as the parent?
