Appreciate the update and you going to the trouble of setting up a staging site. If using Site Kit on a staging site without having reset the plugin you’ll have a separate WordPress install with different WordPress constants (SALT Keys). This may result in your primary site being disconnected, and a “Looks like your Site URL has changed notice”. This may also be impacting setup of Site Kit on this staging site.
In order to troubleshoot this further back on your main site can you follow the steps below. These are similar to the steps previously performed however we’ll hopefully have some additional insights should the blank screen occur once more:
- Reset Site Kit on your primary site once more (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit)
- Setup the plugin
- Check does the same blank screen occur after being redirected back to your primary Site Kit dashboard.
- If the blank screen doesn’t appear connect the other Google services within Site Kit and check once more does the blank screen appear.
If any any stage the blank screen appears once more please share any XHR response from that same screen. You can use the same form previously used to share these details.
Blank screen on 2.
no XHR response at all

Many thanks for the update. I’ve created the below GitHub issue so we can gather all the insights from the checks you’ve performed:
https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/4445Blank screen on 2.
Are you referring to your site setup from the staging site? As I’m unsure if you reset your main site before testing setup on the staging site are you happy for me to request a site reset on the Site Kit service? This will result on you having to setup the plugin once more, and connecting all previous services.
I’ve also added some troubleshooting checks to the related GitHub issue above. Feel free to perform the below checks before I request a site reset on the Site Kit service:
- Uninstall and reinstall the plugin. From your comments I believe you may have already done this but on the staging site.
- Check does the same occur from another device
no I did reset on live site. Even uninstalled and reinstalled. Please reset everything you can ??
1. resetted, uninstalled and reinstalled on both staging and live.
2. yes clients site and he cant do anything either.Staging site is now on 221 theme and nothing but sitekit plugin installed.
Thanks for the update and confirmation. I’ll amend those details on the related GitHub issue.
I’ve also requested a site reset for this particular site. Unfortunately I don’t have a timeframe for this but I would expect it won’t take longer than a couple of working days.
In the meantime there are a couple of checks you may wish to perform.
- Does the same occur with another WordPress site on the same hosting platform. This is independent of your staging site, does the same occur on a clean new WordPress install.
- When your client logged into the site and encountered the same I assume they’re using a shared login? I ask as I noticed a “connected_user_count: 1” reference in your Site Health information.
No problem if you wish to wait for the site reset rather than performing additional checks such as the above. Appreciate your efforts so far, I’m confident we’ll be able to determine the cause.
Great support thank you.
1. Will test on a new install during the day.
2. yea using shared account.unfortunately the hostingplan only allows 1 domain and don’t have any way of making temporary domain, will wait for reset
Great, let us know how you get on with the new site.
2. yea using shared account.
In that case you could create a second WordPress administrator account and after logging in with this account attempt Site Kit setup. During setup when requested to sign in to your Google account please test a separate Google account to see can you see the primary Site Kit dashboard after setup.
Same issue on both live and staging with new admin account.
Thanks for trying that, @anderslinn. In that case let’s wait on the reset for now – I’ll let you know when that’s been done and you can try again.
@anderslinn Thanks again for your patience here. I’ve discussed this further we our team and we don’t believe that this issue is related to your URL change, but we’re double-checking on our side just to make sure.
There are a few things that our engineers suggested taking a look at, if you’re able:
- We noticed the
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading appendChild)
console error in your video. Have you been able to identify and address this issue? It’s possible that it could have an impact on the Site Kit issue. I’ve installed the same plugins as yours on a test site and I am not seeing that error, so it could be related to your theme or something else. - You noted that you “set url paths in wp-config to original https://www.” If you temporarily revert that change, does the Site Kit dashboard work?
We’re also wondering if this could be related to something on your hosting platform, as it’s not uncommon for us to see certain scripts or tasks blocked on shared hosting, in particular. Can you try reaching out to your hosting provider to see what assistance they can provide, as well?
This was the weirdest thing, not sure if related but disabled cloudflare app “cookie consent” by https://collect.chat/ and it worked. did not test before that so unsure if this really was the issue.
@anderslinn Very interesting! Sorry that it took us so long to get here but glad to hear that you identified the problem.
I’ll mark this topic as resolved, but if you do have any questions or issues with Site Kit, please feel free to create a new one.
