I have set up Google site kit and successfully linked it to my google analytics and search console. However, when testing whether the tag manager or console are being triggered using google tag assistant chrome extension or the google tag manager Preview and Debug Console, neither show that analytics or tag manager are working.

Here is the health site info:

Thanks for reaching out. From inspecting your sides source code I don’t see any Analytics or Tag Manager snippet. In order to troubleshoot the cause can you inform me of the following:

    1. Have you made any modifications to your active theme, which may have resulted in some hooks being removed?
    2. Did you have Analytics or Tag Manager working previously, using a manual insertion or your Head, Footer and Post Injections plugin?
    Thread Starter jonbstrong

    (@jonbstrong)

    1. No. I’m currently using the Twenty Nineteen WordPress theme with Thrive Architect.
    2. Possibly, hard to remember. I had the head, footer and post injections plugin active as I was previously using an HTML snippet, but it wasn’t analytics or tag manager related. I’ve now deactivated & removed it, but no change.

As you can see from these screenshot, in the backend, the site kit is saying that the snippets for GA and GTM are inserted, even though this is not the case:

Thanks for sharing the screenshots. If you’re comfortable checking the source code of your site the following troubleshooting steps might be useful to check whether the snippet appears:

    1. Login to your site from a Chrome browser incognito window
    2. Ensure logged in users are counted in your Analytics metrics. You’ll find the settings under “Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Analytics > Edit”.
    3. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    4. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”. (This will temporarily deactivate other plugins and switch to a default theme – for you only, as a logged in user).
    5. Check your sites source code, I you shouldn’t find any snippet placed
    6. From back in your Health Check plugin click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to”Site Kit”. After enabling check your sites source code one more after refreshing the page. If you’re able to view any snippet there may be a plugin or theme impacting the rendering of this snippet
    7. Back in troubleshooting mode click on the “Enable” option next to any additional plugins, before then visiting your sites source code once more and checking does the snippet remain.
    8. If the snippet remains try activating a different theme while in troubleshooting mode, before then checking the source code once mode (Please refresh the page before checking)

You can exit troubleshooting mode after the checks above. Let me know how you get on after checking. The above is an alternative to switching themes and deactivating plugins while checking.

If you have any questions on the above, or if you’re unsure how to check your sites source code let me know and I’d be happy to assist.

Thanks for your answer. The troubleshooting revealed that enabling the Thrive Architect plugin disabled Google Tag Manager & analytics. I’m not sure how or why though, as I’m using architect on another site and this isn’t occurring. I’m not using anything in the Analytics & Scripts section for Thrive Architect either.

I can also see that for any web pages where I’m not using Thrive Architect, Google Site kit works properly. e.g. https://spotlightpodcasting.com/testing/

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

That’s interesting, very useful insights, I’ll bring this up with the team. I haven’t tested out Thrive myself so I can’t be sure, how you been able to determine any configurations that may remove particular WordPress hooks?

    Thread Starter jonbstrong

    (@jonbstrong)

It looks as though Thrive Architect forces us to use their tracking scripts for their landing pages and a fallback plugin like Google site kit to manage everything else. Doesn’t seem very efficient, but that’s the way they seem to expect users to deal with it

Thanks for sharing, I’ll pass that onto the team and keep a note internally. If we’re able to test the plugin we can check for any possible homepage workarounds. We’ll keep this topic open in the meantime.

Many thanks for your patience on this. You are correct in your troubleshooting, and I’ve been able to recreate the same experience from my side.

As Thrive Themes overwrites your homepage with it’s own custom template you can manually insert any product snippets using the Thrive Architect plugins “Custom Scripts” configuration.

Your site is should already be verified by Search Console, so for Analytics you just need to insert your Analytics tag within that placement. There is a guide you can follow on the Thrive theme website if you run into any trouble.

Let me know if you have any further queries on this and we’d be happy to assist where possible.

As we didn’t receive a response I’ll mark this as resolved. Feel free to open a new support topic if you have any additional queries.
