Google Site Kit translation suddenly missing

    Google Site Kit was installed and set up successfully on a site.
    The site uses German (non-formal) translation and Google Site Kit had also been using that translation.

    However, suddenly Google Site Kit uses its original English strings and no translation anymore. On that site, automatic updates are enabled, hence I strongly suspect that the translation issue occurred by an automatic update of Google Site Kit plugin.

    Is there a way to make Google Site Kit re-download the translation files?

    Thanks for reaching out @strarsis. There were some recent changes in WordPress to how plugin translations work, resulting in some plugin translations reverting to English. This can occur during plugin updates, rather than sporadically.

    While we are looking at ways to resolve this you can, as a workaround, uninstall the plugin before installing once more. Your language will switch back to German (formal) if that’s what you have defined in your WordPress general settings.?

    If this plugin is kept activated, your language won’t switch to English upon each Site Kit update. It will do as you asked, ensure the latest language files are downloaded immediately. Our release cycle is every two weeks.

    The Translation Tools plugin indeed allows downloading the missing JSON files and restoring the translations.
