• My site is brand new with no content on it what so ever. I used this plugin to create a coming soon front page but all of a sudden Google blocked my site due to “Deceptive Content”. I tried everything but I finally figured out that it was this plugin because Google couldn’t verify that I owned the site until I deactivated the plugin. I literally deactivated and then went to Google and it worked immediately. Now I have to attempt to regain Google’s trust…

    Serious question here: Why do you say that and how does this plugin cause that?

    Edit: Also? Don’t yell in the forums. I’ve de-capped your title.

    Hello @tariq2008x,

    Sorry to hear that, but to be honest I don’t see how a simple page can be blocked due to “deceptive content“… unless the content of the page was modified (by a third-party) in a manner that Google does not agree.

    I use the plugin on multiple websites and none of them was blocked due to “deceptive content”.

    Also, the website can be verified if you add the meta from Google Webmasters Tools to the maintenance mode page <head><\head>.

    // place this snippet into functions.php of your active theme
    function wpmm_add_webmsters_tools_meta() {
       echo 'here you put the meta';
    }

    add_action('wpmm_head', 'wpmm_add_webmsters_tools_meta');

    Anyway, please give more details and try to fix the issue from Webmasters Tools.

    Thanks.

    Hi George thanks for replying. Listen I LOVED the plugin but while searching for a solution for my site’s phishing problem I asked for help through Google forums, where I was told that some of my site’s js files were flagged as potential phishing.

    They provided me with this link that appears to show that this plugin’s files are blacklisted:
    https://urlquery.net/report.php?id=1481809079166

    I also found that many of the other plugin’s reviewers mentioned that they had issues with spam.

    Regarding Web Master tools, I pasted the code in the appropriate place but Google could not verify the site. On a hunch (after trying for days), I deactivated the plugin and my site was verified by Google immediately.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello @tariq2008x,

    Thanks for your reply. Could you please post the urls of the Google Forums threads (if they’re public)? We will also try to contact fortiguard.com to give us more details.

    Thanks.

    After a few emails with fortiguard (Web Filtering team and AV team), they have told me that they corrected the mis-rating of the website and the problem was not caused by the plugin.
    If you want more details, you should contact their support team.

    Later edit: urlquery.net report for a website with WP Maintenance Mode activated: https://urlquery.net/report.php?id=1484999533500

    I like to read the negative reviews before trying a plugin… and as far as I can tell, the @georgejipa (the plugin author) really went above and beyond to investigate the issues related to this particular site. I’d hope that @tariq2008x would come back and change his rating. ??

    I think I’ll be trying this plugin. It really does seem to provide a nice way to show a more attractive “maintenance mode” page than the default.

    I agree with lowemo. I’m now going to use the plugin. I was very concerned about @tariq2008x post. I’m happy I read the entire thread.
