Here’s an excerpt of the email I received today from MailPoet. Everyone else probably got one, also. “The email marketing world is evolving, and we’re here to help you through these pivotal changes. Yahoo’s and Google’s new sender guidelines, effective from February 2024, mandate specific actions for all senders sending to mailboxes hosted by Google and Yahoo. These changes are not just for compliance but are steps towards more effective, trusted email marketing.”

The notice says for Email Marketing. However, I am not using MailPoet for Marketing, I am using it to communicate with members of my group. (eg. meeting reminders, useful information for the group members, etc.)

My Domain Host does not supply a free domain email account, and my group doesn’t charge members. I’m covering the domain under my own hosting and the domain is paid through February 2025, so I can’t move. I’ve been using a free gmail account to send emails to the group.

My question is, can I use my own domain email address as the Sender Email, and have the “Reply to:” email as the gmail account?

    Thanks,

    Mathis…

Never mind. The answer is “Consider yourself lucky if your email goes to an inbox” with a score of 4.8/10. I found a link on MailPoet support for https://www.mail-tester.com/ and tested it.

I entered my personal domain email address to both the From and Reply to fields and it gave me “Good stuff. Your email is almost perfect” with a score of 7.3/10 and said SpamAssassin thinks you could do better. And gave me https://spamassassin.apache.org/

So I guess I’ll talk it over with the group’s director and see if she wants to take up a collection to get an email for the domain.

I’ll leave this open in case someone in the community or in Support has a better solution.

    Thanks,

    Mathis…

    Hi there,

I understand you received the latest update via email regarding Google and Yahoo sender requirements. While you are not using MailPoet for email campaigns directed to marketing, the reccomendations included are suggested to ensure deliverability.

One of the main recommendations is to use a domain email address.

The first step in this transition is to create an email address associated with your domain (e.g. [email protected]). This usually involves a two-stage process – registering for a hosting plan or an email service provider and then setting up your email account.
    ?
Many domain hosts provide email service as part of their packages, so you might want to check if your domain host offers this. If they do, you can follow their instructions to set up your email account. If your host does not provide this service or you want more functionalities, you might want to consider a dedicated email service provider.

Once your new email address has been created, you need to modify your MailPoet settings as follows:

    1. Go to MailPoet > Settings > Basics tab in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Under “Default Sender”, replace the email address with your new branded one.
    3. Click “Save Settings” to apply the changes.

Lastly, you will need to set up SPF and DKIM records in the DNS settings of your domain to authenticate MailPoet to send emails on behalf of your new branded email address and avoid being marked as spam. You can find guides on how to do this here:?https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/295-spf-dkim-dmarc#further-reading-dmarc

The update to these new sender requirements from Gmail and Yahoo might seem challenging initially, but it’s designed to improve the security and integrity of your email communication, ultimately benefiting your campaigns

More details on this can be found here https://www.mailpoet.com/blog/navigating-googles-and-yahoos-new-sender-requirements-what-email-marketers-need-to-know/

    Hope this helps!
