    Sure, thanks for pointing this out.

    We’ll wrap the entire cookie notice message with the google snippets excluding it from SEO in the next release.

    These tags are used on Google Search Appliance only, not in Google web-search as explained by John Mueller here at stackoverflow.

    hi there, arg… yes, I see your point.

    I know that Google, etc. will generate own snippets algorithmically, so…:

    How about if the useragent string is used to not generate the cookie message if it is googlebot, bingbot, facebook, etc.?

    There might better lists of bot useragents, but this is one: https://www.keycdn.com/blog/web-crawlers/

    or is there a parameter that can be added to a URL to not display the cookie message?

    that way sites and 301 redirect bots to the url + the avoid_cookiemessage parameter.

    trying to think of low effort fixes….

    A general thought: If Google etc. shows cookie message as snippet, it probably did not find “better content” on the page. Would try to provide better content and/or add a proper meta description to the pages, e.g. via SEO plugin.

    Content based on crawler useragent causes various problems, examples:

    1. Google compares content with/without its useragent and is not happy if the content is different.

    2. Compatibility with all kind of cache plugins breaks.

    Fair points….

    We are using All in One SEO and are finding this problem on pages like tag archives. You are completely right…. the descriptions are empty on these.

    Problem solves, and good to have for others to search for!
