GP – Child Theme?

Hi, I just realized that it is not recommended to edit theme’s core files, as all theme customizations will be lost after an update. I am not sure whether I am using a child theme currently, if I am not using, what should I do now to prevent any customization loss in future without re-doing the entire site?
