I have experienced a gradual loss of all my admin functions to

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /usr/home/alexzhenya/public_html/peabody2016.pairsite.com/wp-admin/includes/misc.php on line 329

At first yesterday in was only a few.. “Appearance” for example. My ISP support suggested adding a .user.ini file with ‘memory_limit = 64M’

I did this and it seems that nothing is better, now I can’t even log into admin.

The last plugin added was “Say What” although I haven’t exercised it yet beyond install.
    Any other solutions?

    Hello!

It looks like that something on Your site is using up too much memory. This can simply happen because You have too much plugins activated and Your server has really low memory for serving Your site.

The first thing I would recommend deactivating some plugins that You need the least, and them use the some plugin like the P3 profiler to find out what plugins are using the most resources.

By the way, in my experience, based on Your site’s complexity and visitor number, I think a 64 MB memory limit is pretty low, and You will be facing these issues pretty often if Your site gets more visitors… Can I ask You, what is Your hosting provider?

If You have any questions or need assistance related to this, just feel free to post a reply here and I am happy to help.

    Cheers,
    Balint

Thanks for writing. I am using Pair Networks.

Since I can’t get into my Admin. How should I start unhooking some of the plugins?

You need to open Your site with an FTP software or use some kind of file browser, if Your hosting company provides one. Please go to Your wp-content directory and inside that open the plugins directory. There You will see a couple of folders, every folder corresponding to a plugin You have installed in Your WordPress site. There You simply need to rename a plugin folder’s name to deactivate it. The name You choose is not important, the point is to rename the folder. This way WordPress cannot find longer the plugin’s files, and it will automatically deactivate it.

To delete these plugins You have manually deactivated, rename the folder names to it’s original names (my advice is to reactivate them one by one) and then deactivate and delete them in the Dashboard, this way there will be no leftover data from these plugins in the database.

By the way, could You please share a link to Your site?

Let me know how it goes.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

I stripped down to where it was last working, and P3 reports using 75mb of memory. The two big resource programs are Connections and NextGen Gallery. I think I need to find a slimmer gallery program, my needs are not sophisticated and I suspect that it has many features I will never use.

    The site is peabody2016.pairsite.com

Thanks for your help. On a completely different topic… My parents were part of the Russian population that lived in the Subotica/Novi Sad area following the Russian revolution in 1917. My mother was born in Novi Sad and they were both educated in the university in Belgrade.

    Small world.

    Hello!

Yes, 75 MB is really too much for one plugin, You should definitely look into that. Sadly I cannot recommend You any decent gallery plugins instead of NextGen Gallery ??

Wow, I am stunned! It IS a really small world!

    Cheers,
    Balint
